Sabras Radio celebrated its 20th anniversary with a Gala Dinner and Dance at the Ramgharia Hall, Leicester on Saturday 19th September. The huge sold-out ‘Sabras Birthday Bash’ was attended by celebrities, dignitaries, community leaders and listeners. It was the culmination of the station’s 20th year summer of events.
The whole event was hosted by UK pop sensation, Navin Kundra, along with presenters from the station. As well as hosting, he mesmerised the crowds with his chart-topping hits. In a candid moment on stage, Navin said “This is a proud moment and very fitting because 9 years to this day, I walked into Sabras Radio studios with my first song, and Sabras was the first station in the world to play my record. Since then they have supported me on my journey and have given a platform to many other artists. I’m thrilled to be asked to host this show and entertain all of you tonight!”
The station also flew in television actress, Preetika Rao from India to attend the event. Rao was a part of the hit Colors’ show ‘BeIntehaa’ and also sung a duet with Navin on stage. The Bhangra chart sensation, PBN rocked the stage with its list of hit numbers, before AVH and DV Entertainments took over with their live DJ set-up up until midnight. There was also live Bollywood music earlier in the evening by Music Rhythm. The Right Honourable Keith Vaz MP also paid tribute to the station’s contribution to UK Asian broadcasting over the past 20 years.
Raj Baddhan, Operations Manager at Sabras Radio said, “We knew we had a massive show on our hands when we started planning for our 20th year celebrations at the beginning of this year. This was our first dinner and dance and so we wanted to make it an extra special event to give our listeners and well-wishers a unique experience. We’re so thrilled the night turned out to be such a stomping success. Sabras Radio is one of the pioneering stations in UK Asian media and it was so good to see large amount of supporters all under one-roof. Here’s to many more..!”
